HARV.EE Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 April 2025

This privacy policy explains how HARV.EE ("the app") handles your information. HARV.EE is developed by Dan Wright, trading as Chattan Harbour. Chattan Harbour is the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR.

What HARV.EE does

HARV.EE is an AI cognitive partner for neurodivergent students. It runs on your iPhone and communicates with an AI language model to provide personalised learning support.

What information the app collects

Information you provide directly:

  • A student profile, including name, year group, diagnosis or identified need, and current exam subjects. This is collected during first-time setup and stored locally on your device only.
  • Conversation messages you send to HARV.EE during a session.

Information collected automatically:

  • Anonymous technical logs, including app errors and feature usage events. These are processed by a server-side proxy operated by Chattan Harbour. They do not include message content, and they cannot be used to identify individual users.

How your information is used

Student profile data is used solely to personalise HARV.EE's responses to the student. It is stored on your device and is not transmitted to Chattan Harbour or any third party.

Conversation messages are sent to Anthropic (the maker of the Claude AI model) via a server-side proxy operated by Chattan Harbour. Anthropic processes messages to generate responses. Messages are not stored by Chattan Harbour's proxy beyond the duration of the request. Anthropic's own data handling is governed by their privacy policy, available at anthropic.com.

Technical logs are used by Chattan Harbour to identify and fix technical problems. They contain no personally identifiable information and no message content.

Device permissions

HARV.EE may request the following permissions on your device:

  • Camera - to allow you to photograph work and share it in the chat. Photos are processed by the AI model to provide help. They are not stored by Chattan Harbour.
  • Reminders - to allow HARV.EE to create reminders on your behalf when asked. Data is written directly to Apple Reminders on your device.
  • Calendar - to allow HARV.EE to create calendar events on your behalf when asked. Data is written directly to Apple Calendar on your device.

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in your iPhone Settings.

Children's data

HARV.EE is designed for use by secondary school students, typically aged 14 to 16. We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the service. Student profile data is stored only on the family's own device. We do not create user accounts, collect email addresses, or link student data to any external identity.

Parents and carers are encouraged to review this policy with their young person before use.

How long we keep data

Student profile and conversation data are stored on your device. You can delete all data by uninstalling the app or using the reset option in Settings. Anonymous technical logs held server-side are retained for 90 days and then deleted automatically.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time

Because most data is stored on your own device, you can exercise most of these rights directly by managing or deleting the app. For data held server-side (anonymous technical logs), or to raise any concern, contact us at:

ceo@chattanharbour.com

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top and notify users via an in-app notice where appropriate.
